10 of my favorite things about Thanksgiving

I’m back linking up with Marsha in the Middle for the 10 on the 10th. If you want to join in please do this is so fun to do and it’s only once a month. Plus this is a way for people to get to know you better especially if you own a business. People shop from people so to give this insight is valuable when you are an introvert like me lol. Here are 10 of my favorite things about Thanksgiving that I love because although my tree is up we still celebrate the day of Thanksgiving around here.

  1. When I had cereal for dinner because I don’t eat Turkey, stuffing, or greens. Yes, I’m black all of it is nasty. My mom allowed me to get cereal on those days and that was my dinner and I loved it.
  2. Putting up the tree. We put the tree up for Christmas on Thanksgiving that was the tradition now I put my tree up on Nov. 1st…basically I’m putting the tree up while giving out Halloween candy.
  3. Getting together with my grandma cause she snuck me dessert. My mom said I couldn’t have any since I didn’t eat dinner.
  4. Watching Christmas movies on VHS. We used to go to Blockbuster and rent the latest movie. (I’m telling my age)
  5. I get to sit and reflect on what I’m really thankful for…the things that I already have. Not that I’m not thankful on a regular basis but that day I truly appreciate that I have everything I need it is amplified even more.
  6. Giving. I used to volunteer at the shelter on Thanksgiving mornings when I came to college. I need to start doing that with my kids because they need to humble themselves. ]
  7. Planning my birthday. My birthday is Dec 16th and I start planning every year on Thanksgiving.
  8. The smell of Apple pie….since my mom wouldn’t let me have any and my grandma snuck me some but it smelled good in the entire home back in the day my mom didn’t have candles so that was a good smell to remember.
  9. Having my mom. I miss her dearly and I saw her every Thanksgiving. I’m thankful that I had a great mother.
  10. The peace. It’s something about a day when everything is closed down and you get to sit still. These days I still have to work on holidays because my job is 24 hours but it’s still nice to know that the world isn’t as busy.

Kym, I am with you on Thanksgiving food! I have never liked any of it. Yuck. Except dessert, of course. Ha. I am laughing that you were putting up your Christmas tree while handing out Halloween candy! We put our Christmas lights up the weekend after Halloween but I can’t put the tree up until Thanksgiving otherwise I would get sick of it before Christmas! But my kids have been begging for it. Two more weeks and they can have it! Wishing you a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving!

I love that you eat cereal for Thanksgiving…do you still, really? You don’t make something you do like? We don’t usually volunteer at the shelter in November because everyone else is doing it. So, we volunteer throughout the rest of the year. Oh, and I remember going to Blockbuster to get movies! And, I’m with you on missing my mom. She was cranky and stubborn and just like me, and I miss her terribly!

I’m so glad you joined in!!
