5 photography markets you may not have thought of

Everyone wants to do wedding photography or portrait photography and there isn’t enough talk about other sides of photography. Things that we may not think about that we can do to expand our offering. Maybe you do wedding photography and want to do something else or switch to something else that isn’t as busy but still needed when it comes to photography. I want to give you 5 different photography markets you may not have thought of to get into that can make you some good money and that a lot of people aren’t in.

Influencer Photography – You can also say a business photographer. If someone owns a business they need photos and reels (if you can take photos you can most likely do reels and get someone else to edit it) on a weekly or even monthly business to showcase on their TikTok or Instagram. I offer this service (limited because it’s a lot) to other businesses. I have a baker that I do weekly I just come in and take photos of her behind the scenes, of her doing stuff and making it into reels and I also help her plan out what to say weekly and take that off of her. You can offer to do this with influencers or other small business owners. You don’t have to hit them over the head with prices. I charge around $100 a week with minimal editing that way they keep coming back for more and you have semi-steady income coming in.

Real estate Photography or Architecture – I know y’all think folks aren’t buying houses but they are. Not only buying but renting. Renters need to get people in their properties. Apartment complexes need to sell so you can be the go-to photography person to help sell that. Focusing on buildings, interiors, and significant architectural works, this type of photography requires an eye for detail and an appreciation for design.

Event photography but specifically small birthday parties – I made a killing with this when I first came out. This is something that is needed you can niche even further and do small events with no more than 100 people. Trust me there is money to be made in this type of photography. I made the money and I wasn’t even as experienced back then. I just hated that my whole weekend was taken so I stopped doing it on a regular basis and only did it for my regular clients.

Food Photography – Not enough African Americans are in this niche. It’s nice to see your food photos on websites and we all gotta eat. Two of my favorites to watch are Madelynne and Maureen. If you don’t want to deal with a lot of people you can do this and a bonus if you can style the food too and do videos. You can make a killing because a lot of people eat with their eyes first.

Sports Photography – This is a great field to get into and you can do your local high schools or local park recreation sports teams. Show up take great pics and sell yourself. If you go to dance with your kids have your camera out and ask the studio permission (papers have to be signed if kids are involved) or the owner’s permission to take some photos for their website. You can do track, basketball, golf, dance, etc. Bonus if you can do the lighting and special effects to go with it

These are just 5 photography markets you may not have thought of and remember you can always do the market of keeping your photography a hobby and just having fun in all of the niches available.
