I have been trying to get tickets to this event for over a year. Every time I do, it’s sold out or it’s on a day that I can’t go. This year it was on a day that I usually have book club, but I decided to forgo book club and go to the event. The cost is close to 200 so make sure you can afford it before you buy the ticket. You get a full-course meal, and I will share (from the site) what we had, my thoughts on the food and the atmosphere so that you can know if those coins are worth it. Is Brown Butter Supper Club worth it? My honest experience is below.
This event is put on by Chef Courtnee Futch-Brinson. You can follow her here.
STARTERS
Turmeric Focaccia, Grilled on Open Flame (the butter spread was good, but I didn’t love the bread)
Meyer lemon & cardamom butter, plum mostarda, peppered olive oil
Charred Sugar Snap Pea Salad
brown sugar shichimi togarashi, honey zhoug vinaigrette (salad was excellent)
MAINS
Smoked Ginger & Apricot Chicken
yuzu kosho butter sauce, matcha aji verde (My gawd, this was good. I didn’t need anything else)
Saffron & Black Lime Mussels and Shrimp (way too spicy for me)
mezcal and sake broth, herbs, chili oil
SIDES
Saffron & Coconut Sweet Corn Risotto (it was good but a little too sweet for me)
crispy onions, condensed milk
Nori Butter & Lime Roasted Sweet Potatoes (we didn’t have this; we had instead some type of green beans that was pretty decent)
rice vinegar agrodolce
DESSERT
S’mores Slab Cake (not a fan of dark chocolate stuff, so I didn’t like it but if you love chocolate, this is for you)
dark chocolate ganache, mango carrot caramel, miso & toasted cardamom marshmallow, graham cracker crumble
She had more but these are just a few things I had (I bolded my thoughts on the food). She told a story about what we were eating before it came out and how she came up with the concept, and I thought that was nice. She also had mocktails, which I thought was nice for those of us who don’t drink or who may be pregnant.
I loved the food, and if you want to experience something new, then go. What I did feel odd about was that almost everyone brought their friends or their significant other. It almost felt like I took myself out to dinner alone, and that can be a deterrent for some people. I sat at a table with a group of friends who came together, and it was awkward at first because I was just sitting there. They made conversation with me, but I still felt out of place. It wasn’t her fault; it was mine because I didn’t know it was going to be like that. I don’t know why I thought most people would be strangers, but I know for next time.
Bring someone with you, or if you like to be alone, then come. I will say the atmosphere was good, and sitting with the young ladies that I was sitting with wasn’t all bad. I just felt old cause they were young lol. I know there were a few people who came alone, but I didn’t sit by them. I should have picked better seating but again that was my fault. My advice: if you are ok with doing things by yourself, go alone, but if you aren’t, then bring someone with you. Just my opinion.
For the experience of the food itself, I would say it’s worth the money. Also, make sure you are open to the menu. There may be things on there that you have never had and the experience of this is to try something new. Here are some photos and a small video of the night (that went on my instagram) below so you can get a feel for next time.
Would you pay almost $200 for this? Why or why not?

Here is a link for the video in case below looks wonky.
