Hey some of y’all may have noticed a new email about a subscription. It’s me lol. I want to talk about it right quick and also talk about how I’m saving money in my business. So let’s talk…..
This will now take the place of Hello, Kita…it will kinda be the same thing, but now you will get blog posts that come straight to your email. I’ll still be talking shat and keeping you up with my stuff, but on my website. I was paying flodesk $50 to house my newsletter over there and I’m like I can save that money and put everything on my site. Here is the plan….
You won’t get all posts that I publish in your inbox because I know some of y’all don’t wanna see stuff about photography, so I’ll try to remember to take those posts off the subscriber list if I don’t charge it to me being old and just ignore.
I only plan on posting on this site 2 to 3 times a week, probably on the 2 sides unless I go somewhere. One post will still be in the Hello Kita format, just not all the bells and whistles, and you get to see more photos because I can control things a bit more on my own website. Plus, I own it… so I don’t have to worry about Flodesk shutting down and not having access to my posts.
There will be no schedule. I will post when I can, so if you don’t see me one week…it’s ok you might see me twice the next week, but you will see me a few times a month. Having my newsletter (aka posts) on my site drives traffic back to me, and I love that aspect. I’ll start kinda fresh and say Hello, Kita edition 1 next week. Let me think about how we format it.
I also canceled Canva because I was already paying for Adobe Express (note: if you have a child in school, use their email address and get Adobe for cheap. Change the billing on your plan and then redo it with a new address for the school and boom cheaper)
I am saving coins by going to Fiverr. I did a post about me hiring folks from Fiverr for things. Check it out, and hopefully some of those people are still working if not, ask me who I hire on there, and I’ll to get the link. I don’t mind paying folks, but baby, I’m a small business, and I don’t make a lot, so we save where we can.
On the social media side, I canceled LinkedIn cause it was a waste of my time. Deleted the TikTok app (I still have TikTok I just deleted the app off my phone. If I want to see TikTok, I gotta log in on the computer), and as most of you know, my Instagram is private cause folks be stealing pics (I will post the kids when I can over there), and I want to control who follows me. I only have my She Geechee Insta, and Threads is open under the same name @kita.bryant
I also have a Substack for She Geechee called the Gullah Porch. You can go look me up over there and subscribe.
I am also on youtube….I may start posting small stuff over there, but it will be stuff that I would have posted on TikTok. I want to be a YouTuber, but chile, I ain’t got time.
Other ways I’m saving money in business….
- Get rid of paid Substack subscriptions. If it’s not making you money or beneficial to you in some way, delete them and save that coin. (Insta subscriptions also)
- I no longer use a gallery for clients; everything is on Dropbox (which I pay for, but it’s a one-stop shop)
- Go through all subscriptions. Did you know that a Pinterest thing was taken out of my account and I didn’t cancel it in time. $200 gone. Also, if you do a free subscription to something, mark on your calendar when you need to cancel it so it doesn’t charge you.
- Buying used gear. I haven’t bought new camera gear in a while. I will sell or trade in something. You can do this for a lot of stuff. I heard Facebook Marketplace is booming
- Barter if you can….
Hopefully you will stay and see what I’m writing, but if not, no worries. In this economy, I want to save as much as I can and downsize and regroup to fit my budget. I hope you will stick around, but if it becomes a lot, please unsubscribe.

I have been cutting down my cost as well. I canceled Zoom because I didn’t use it much- maybe once a month. I moved to Google because I was paying for my workspace and using their other tools. The cost is much cheaper plus I’m not paying for the same services. I still have Canva but I have thought about going free again. I have a hard time designing there anyway.
This is good food for thought. I’m looking at retiring my full time job but I have to keep cutting a little more off the top. Thanks🌻
