Succeed on TikTok as an Introvert | Five Steps to Get Started Today

Content creators looking to grow their audience and expand their reach, have flocked to sites like TikTok and Instagram as a way to reach people. These short-form content options can be significantly helpful in growing your brand and expanding your business. Even if you don’t have a business to grow, TikTok seems to be the place everyone hangs out. It’s fun, entertaining, and a great resource for everything from cooking and cleaning to news and health. But, what if you’re an introvert? TikTok is full of creators making dance routine videos, informative and entertaining skits, and essentially just putting themselves out there every day. For an introvert, just the thought of such public people-ing can be panic-inducing. If you want to jump in though, here are some tips on how to succeed on TikTok as an introvert.

No, You Don’t Need to Dance to Succeed on TikTok as an Introvert

TikTok is full of fun videos of people trying out the latest dance trends and those that aren’t dancing, are acting in well-thought-out sketches and skits. But, what is the introvert to do? Well, I’m here to tell you that to be successful on TikTok, you don’t need to do any of that unless you want to of course. But, if you’re an introvert, you probably want no part of dancing on camera. So, here’s what to do instead:

1. Show a behind-the-scenes clip of whatever it is you most wish to promote. For example, if you sell handcrafted earrings, show the creation and packaging process. People love being let in on the “secrets”.

2. Use trending sounds to promote your video. It doesn’t have to be elaborate; a quick 7-second b-roll video is perfect, just add some text and a trending sound, then include important details and a call to action in your caption, and you’re good to go.

3. Consider creating User Generated Content (UGC) is the newest way people are making money on social media. Essentially you just talk about and use a product that you love and include affiliate links to purchase. This is an easy way to grow on TikTok and make money in the process. You don’t even need to show your face. If you’re a true introvert, just show yourself using the product.

4. People are still doing reaction videos so if this is something that appeals to you, have at it. A “duet” is a feature within TikTok that splits the screen and allows you to show your reaction. Similarly, you could “stitch” a video and include your own reaction – this simply shows a few seconds of the video you’re referring to, then allows you to add your opinion or insight within your own video.

5. Collaborations are another way to succeed on TikTok if you’re an introvert. Link up with another creator, or a group of creators and promote one another. The additional views and commentary on your channel can be uplifting, and help you build confidence in front of the camera, which is a great option for introverts. The more you create on TikTok, the more comfortable you’ll feel sharing videos.

Consistency is Key When it Comes to Social Media

Years ago, the advice would have been, to create engaging and helpful to your audience. Today,  it’s almost as though anything goes! TikTok is a large space. While it is probably best to create informative content that people can use, sometimes content is just content.

You could film a try-on video from your latest StitchFix subscription box, a new product unboxing, or even just a video of how you clean your shower. If your goal is views and growth, and those types of videos align with your goal or purpose, then film away. Stay consistent, keep filming, responding to comments, and being active on the platform, and in no time you will have mastered how to succeed on TikTok as an introvert.
