I Spent 3 Days at Alys Beach and Here’s What No One Tells You About This paradise

I can’t believe I’ve never done a blog post on one of my favorite beaches. I did a prompt on my Instagram (which is private as of now, feel free to join me, just know you will be screened) that I do daily for people to get to know me. The prompt of the day was what’s my favorite US beach and I said Alys beach and I had over 20 messages from people asking me what’s that and where is it and omg it’s beautiful. When folks start asking you several questions, I like to put it all in one blog post so it’s easier to maintain or grab if someone has questions that need answering. I spent 3 days at Alys beach and here’s what no one tells you about this beautiful paradise.

First, when you look at the website, it looks like a white people spot. (I keep it real around here) I was a bit scared to go when I first saw it. Where are the black people? Do black people go to this beach? We drove there. Let’s talk driving first…….

Driving

It took 5 hours from Atlanta

It was a lot of backwoods and kkk spots. My cell didn’t work in a lot of areas. I didn’t like that drive it was scary as a black single mom to two kids, but we made it.

I would suggest flying, maybe not under this current administration, but it’s up to you.

Where we stayed in Alys Beach

Plenty of places to choose from but we stayed here. I was sponsored by another company so they pretty much paid for some of the trip but I did come out of pocket some. This trip happened in 2022 so things can be doubled now due to inflation. Use the link above to see other places to stay or you can look up hotels near the area if you don’t want to stay right near the beach.

The place we stayed at was beautiful and quiet. We each had our own space! It was perfect and I would stay there again. (10/10)

Where we ate around Alys Beach

The food was phenomenal.

We ate at the Citizen (8/10)

Havana Beach and Bar (9/10)

The Big Chill (7/10)

Charlie’s Delight (10/10)

And a few other places in town.

Other details

  • It looks like it’s not welcoming for black people but we saw other black people there. More than I thought I would.
  • The beach had a bar when I went, so you can drink and eat at the beach where we did. The food was pretty good.
  • Everything is within walking distance. You can park and walk everywhere if you stay on the beach.
  • We rented bikes, but I realized my kids didn’t really know how to ride one which they said they could, but that was a nope
  • We drove around and went shopping. No shops near Alys beach fits big girls so don’t bother if you are over an XL.
  • There is nothing for bigger kids to do. My kids thought it was boring the entire time, although they loved the scenery; there was nothing for them to do. We played games and watched a few movies.
  • It is a trip to relax don’t expect to do much, especially if you go off season. (which I did, we went at the end of September and it was empty)
  • It’s a great place to take some pics I actually met a friend down there and did a photoshoot with her. The background is gorgeous and the perfect spot for beach pics.
  • This trip is perfect for a girls’ trip or a couples’ trip.
  • I Spent 3 Days at Alys Beach and Here’s What No One Tells You About This paradise….its a hidden beauty that makes you want to vacation there every year.

I didn’t feel a lot of racism in most places, but I did get some stares and looks. I will say it’s beautiful and looks and feels like you are in another country when you aren’t, so overall I will give this trip an 8/10.
