Best advice for a new blog

I saw a post on threads that asked this question. What’s your best advice for a new blog? I answered because it’s a great question. With everyone talking about blogging coming back I want to talk about my best advice for a new blog especially if you want to start one in 2024.

First, you have to decide if you are starting a blog for money or pleasure. I started my blog for fun and built a solid audience. I made some coins but quickly realized that I couldn’t be doing what brands asked me to do based on their requirements that didn’t match who I was. Plus we don’t fake it over here I will say the good and bad about a brand whether you pay me or not. So many brands didn’t want to work with me because of that…whatever. I make my money over here by doing affiliate links of brands I have bought myself and I’ll occasionally work with a brand 3 to 4 times a year. Blogging is something I love I think of it as youtube but the written version. You want people to “subscribe” to your blog just like they do youtube and read what you have going on. I use feedbin to subscribe to blogs and emails which allows me to subscribe to people I love and read or share their content.

Next, maybe pay for a course. I don’t trust many folks when it comes to blogging the only person that is worth your coins for me is Nellie Acevedo.

Now to the question….everyone is going to say focus on SEO, be yourself, just write, yada yada yada. My advice is to start a series and stick to that once a week. Get the people used to you by doing something consistently (another word you will hear in the blogging world a lot). Starting a series helps you stay on task and you get to set in stone what you will write about at least once a week. That series builds your audience. Once you build that audience they will buy and subscribe and follow you wherever you go. I started a series called Talk Tuesday…I turned it into my newsletter and at one point had over 3k subscribers. I narrowed that down but I get an 80% open rate for my newsletter and I make coins from my affiliate links in there. Why? I started a series and people grew with me and followed me and now they trust my word because I was consistent with that one thing. SEO will come, and your writing will improve, but start something that builds that audience.
