As many of you know or may not know I’m a family photographer. Sure I take brand photos, maternity, and other things (not weddings) but I’m most known for my family photoshoots. When hiring one for your family the most important thing to do besides looking at their portfolio is making sure the person gels well with you and your family. Someone can be a damn good photographer but their attitude or aura doesn’t vibe with yours and that’s ok. My aura is fun and playful but some families may want a more serious photographer. Know who you are working with before you book. Another thing to look for is the different types of family photographers. Let’s discuss them below and I’ll tell you which one I am.
Lifestyle – when you want your family to be carefree with a tad bit of posing. It’s documented authentically.
Documentary – Storytelling images that speak to who that family is. It’s not posed at all it’s just real and raw. Think of it as a meaningful photoshoot. I got my son’s 16th birthday documented on camera by Kaleen here in Atlanta. It told his story of how his 16th birthday was and it was perfect for a boy who doesn’t like the camera.
Traditional – the boring traditional pose with guidance on posing and styling. It’s just pose… here look at the camera… click…. boom.
I’m a lifestyle photographer. I like carefree pics where we do fun things and then I capture who you are while still keeping in mind that the camera is there. Documentary is kind of like this but you go on about your day as if the camera isn’t there. Traditional is boring to me so I’m not the traditional photographer but if that is what you are looking for and that matches your personality make sure you hire that.
Did you know there was a difference in Family photographers? Which one would you hire? Pics are from one of my shoots.
