How do you stand out on social media?

Social media is overcrowded and it’s hard to stand out. How do you reach a million+ people and stand out? Everyone says be you…you are the key but what if you aren’t a stand-out type of person (like myself) who likes to be behind the scene. What if YOU yourself don’t have the personality to have the reach that some may have? Let’s live in reality most people do bring themselves with them online and it’s still not enough. So how do you stand out in these cases?

First, do the opposite. I’m big on if everyone is doing this then you should go the opposite direction. For example, if everyone is using a trending song use another song that’s similar that’s not trending to stand out.

What are your strengths? Stick to those and always believe that someone on these internet streets is always watching…lurking…and you never know who knows who. I went viral on FB a while back on the Shaderoom by posting a post on Twitter. I don’t know who shared it on the shade room page but it got me a lot of new followers and sign-ups to my newsletter. I stuck to my strength…. writing. I know I’m not a video person. I know tik tok isn’t what I’m comfortable with right now but I am good with writing and that is my strength so I stick to that. Even if sometimes I think no one is reading…someone is.

Be around people or follow folks that aren’t in your niche. I find that sometimes I don’t want to follow a bunch of photographers. I might want to follow a home decor person. Being in spaces that are outside of your comfort zone makes you stand out. It forces you to be somewhere uncomfortable stomach bubbling staying in one corner the whole time but still there. Get around people who don’t look like you or act like you.

I’m introverted and here is what I’ve done that others aren’t doing….

Making my Instagram page private. It’s invite only and I love that for me. It keeps down the spam, I know who I’m following and I can engage better with the people who follow me for me.

I am on Twitter or x as they call it. It’s my favorite social media platform I stick to my strength writing in words. Most people are on tik tok or Instagram I’m on there but not as present.

Still blog. I own this piece of the internet and I want to reach people who may not even have social or someone looking up a question can find my content and boom I have a new follower.

I do all this by still being the same funny introverted me….What are you going to do that’s the opposite?
