I always join in on fun stuff with a prompt from Marsha in the middle. It’s 10 on the 10th of every month. I missed last month since I was switching over my website but I’m back. This prompt lets you all get to know who I am and it’s fun. Join in on social media too makes a great reel or carousel.
Here are my 10 favorite holiday memories
- My birthday is close to the holidays (Dec 16. I was supposed to be born on Christmas) so my mom would gift me a piece of jewelry every year. It wasn’t on the holiday but it’s something I always remembered. I still have 75% of all the stuff she ever gave me.
- My mom always made Coconut cake instead of cookies for the holidays. I hated that cake but would try to scrape the coconut off and eat the icing.
- Going over to my Aunt’s house and seeing her blue tree every year. She loved the color blue
- I loved how my mom did a new tree theme every year and everything in the house matched the theme. One year she did a teddy bear tree, then a beach tree, and a sweet treats tree. Where she found the ornaments I still have no idea.
- The parades we watched. My mom didn’t have cable so that was the only thing I saw every year. It looked cold in NY lol
- Eating cereal every year. I am black but hate greens and turkey and stuffing my mom said I could have a bowl of cereal so that was my dinner every year until I moved out
- Praying on the night before the New Year. We never went to church but if I fell asleep she would wake me up and make me pray for the New Year
- Sending off Christmas cards and receiving them. Now all I get are bills and ads for voting
- Going to see the lights in our downtown area. That was a big tradition but cold
- Wearing the same outfit for Christmas. My mom made us all dress alike even my dolls. Again I still have 0 idea how she found outfits to fit my doll. I should have asked more questions lol.

Ah – when I was young (elementary age), we had a blue tree for several years. It was (apparently) quite trendy and my parents – especially my dad – were very proud of that tree. I had almost forgotten about it – thanks for the reminder! I enjoyed your memories!

My brother’s birthday is the 17th – and he was due Christmas day as well!! We always tried to keep his birthday separate from Christmas like it sounds like your mom did. I love that she had a tradition of giving you jewelry. That is so nice.

I know a few people that do themed trees each year and I love them! I never manage to pull them off myself though as I just can’t seem to resist any and all cute ornaments. I always think… where do they store all that stuff?? LOL. These are such fun and special holiday memories.
