7 Things I never travel without as a photographer

I travel for photoshoots often. I am doing my first travel as a photographer shoot next month, where I will be traveling with a family and taking their family photos (with a little video) to have as a memory. It’s my first time doing this and I didn’t realize people actually hired a photographer to follow them everywhere. It’s kind of neat but also kinda scary because I am documenting their life outside, and I’ve never done this before. I am excited, and I wanted to share 7 things I never travel without as a photographer and as a mom who loves to travel.

Of course, my camera…DUH

That is number 1. I don’t carry all the camera and lenses, though, because who wants to carry a big bag with them? I carry one camera with one lens. Usually, it’s my Canon Mirrorless R6 Mark 2 with one lens, the 35 because it’s the lens that I feel captures moments the best for me.

Sunglasses because I gotta look cool while taking the pictures. I am in love with 12 PM glasses. They can be worn inside and out and I love to travel with them. I of course take them off when it’s time to take the photos but sometimes I don’t….I just want to be cool.

Hand wipes because I touch things and I don’t want anything transferring to my camera. I prefer these packs when I don’t want to always carry spray bottles or when I forget them. I can always just put a pack in my pocket to wipe my hands. They come in handy in hotels, too.

A portable power station. Yes, it could be a lot. I travel with it, although I may not always use it, I know it’s in the hotel room if I need it for a shoot. Make sure to charge it. I’ve never had to use it but just in case I need it I have it especially if you want to plug up some basic lights to take photos with or charge up your camera.

I pack my clothes tightly. Sometimes I don’t feel like ironing, but I want to look decent. That’s where my steamer comes in. Yes, I travel with one. It’s needed…most of the time for me….sometimes for the client.

Water. It’s summer and it’s hot. I am always in need of some water and while everyone loves the Stanley cups, I prefer Brumate. It’s better when it comes to being leakproof and I love the colors.

A portable printer. I always like to print a quick photo of the shoot something fun at the end for the clients to keep. I admit I forget sometimes but when I don’t forget I love to give them something they can take with them right then. It’s fun and it’s different because it allows the client to see a glimpse of their shoot so they know what to look forward to.

What do you always travel with?
