I wrote a post on AI a while ago and tailored it to what I thought. I was still new to it at the time, so I want to write another post from a new perspective. In this post, I want to talk about AI for black women entrepreneurs. What I use it for and what I don’t use it for and I want to hear your opinions on AI.
As an older Black millennial, I will say that AI is kind of weird to me. The way y’all just feed it info, as if enough info isn’t already out here about us as is. Y’all give it y’all baby pics, flyer stuff, make graphics with it, and it’s all looking the same.
There was a post where someone said they let AI (Claude) take over their computer to help do files, and I was like what…..
Also saw a post where people use it as a therapist and put their bank info in it.
I’m not afraid of AI, but I am concerned with the amount of stuff it can do. I have seen people take pics of someone else and put it on another body and create a whole profile. It can make you think I robbed a bank when I was, in fact, sitting at home. Do you know what kind of power that is? Sorting through that will take time. Once your face is out here, fake or not, people will form opinions; you can lose your job and a lot of things until they determine it’s not real. By then, the damage is done.
I like it but I don’t trust it and I think that is where I stand with it.
I know it’s the future. I know I can’t escape it, but I also know the power it has, and it’s getting better at that power day by day. It’s not perfect, though….it gives false answers, and it regenerates a lot of the same answers over and over again. AI will not replace me as a human being, and it won’t speak for me. I am going to use it, learn it, and make it work for me, but I won’t put my trust in it 100%.
So what do I use AI for?
- To generate promo codes for various places I shop at, like Fashion Nova or Lane Bryant
- To help me come up with titles like the one I used for this post. I wrote this post but I did give AI ideas to help me create the title and reworded it just a little to fit me.
- I don’t mind it outlining a list of things I can talk about in a blog post, but I write my own posts. AI can’t ever be Geechee like me
- To help me on my weight loss journey. I do use it as my food diary and it gives me an estimate of how many calories I’ve consumed for the day. I am supposed to do 1600 calories per day and it helps although it’s not always acurate.
- I use it to run the news for me. The prompt I use is (Give me the daily news on {insert your topics} and I want this daily. I will say Run the news.
I do use Claude (never used Chat) and I use Google Gemini. Of the two, I like Google Gemini better.
What I don’t use AI for
- Graphics. Canva can do graphics just as easily, and you won’t look like others
- Edit my photography photos. I edit myself. That may change in the future but for now I don’t want to feed AI pics of my clients at this time
- As a therapist, that’s why I have good friends who can tell me when I’m wrong. Also, I need the perspective of a human, not a computer
- To write my blog posts or my newsletters. My voice can’t be duplicated
- To create pictures of me as a crackhead
As a black women I think AI can be good but I want us to trust ourselves. We set the tone for a lot of things, and we need to rely on our minds. AI will already take; let’s be careful how much we give it. As an entrepreneur, it’s simple….you are what people buy and spend their coins on, not a fake version of you. You are what makes the business run.
