As a photographer, I will say that word of mouth works for me but sometimes you need something more to get clients. Here are 3 things I use to get more clients for my business.
Be active on social media. Y’all know I hate social media…with a passion but it’s a world that is bigger than your own backyard. You need to be on there engaging and talking to people. You can be yourself and let the chips fall where they may. I spend 5 min 3 times a day on social media and I keep it moving. Do what you can to get on there and then get the hell off. Also, schedule things. I schedule Twitter and Instagram (from Facebook) this makes life so much easier when owning a business.
Have a blog. I know blogs are a thing of the past but if you can help reg folks get answers to questions that deal with your business then you are winning. There is a thing called SEO and you can use that to help you get more eyes on your business. Let’s say you own a plumbing company and you write a post on various toilet tissues to get to help keep down the clog. Folks will google what toilet tissue can I use that won’t clog my toilet. Guess what your post might come up and boom now you have eyes on your website and your business.
Network and embrace who you are. Networking outside of the computer is a great way to get clients. A few months ago I did some photoshoots for a client. While out with my camera a young lady saw me and came over in the middle of the shoot to get my business card. From that encounter and speaking with her…she not only booked me but referred me to 3 others. {Tip: Talk yourself up….be yourself and show your personality. Give yourself an edge by showcasing your personality on your site, communications, and business publications.} Also network when you can. Go to one event a month. Look on Eventbrite for stuff in your area.
