I know a lot of people delete their social media. Some just disappear and don’t say nothing. Over the past few weeks I’ve been deleting folks off of my Twitter (which is a huge undertaking we will talk more about) and my Instagram. A few months ago I decided that instead of deleting Instagram I would just make it private. It’s by invite only because I can’t keep up with thousands of folks anyway and most people only follow to be nosy (I do the same for a few of my favorite accounts so no judgment). I also love that I know who is following me and it’s more curated and I get to really engage with folks who engage with me. I also love that I can tag businesses and folks and say what I want (keep in mind people can still screenshot) and I don’t have to worry about them in my DM asking for the pic or asking me to rewrite something about their products because they didn’t like my opinion.
Would you delete Instagram? I always say I need it for my business but do I really need it to run my business? I saw this on youtube the other day about that very topic. I will say this I have never gotten business off of any social media channel…not even my favorite which is Twitter. I get all of my business from word of mouth. Just the other day I wrote a blog post (blogging isn’t dead) and someone found me by Google searching for something and bought a few shirts. She never followed me and didn’t even know I existed.
I’m older now and I’m tired of trying to keep up with this trend or post that pretty picture. I got on Instagram to share pieces of my life and sometimes I just don’t feel like sharing with everyone. Social media had me under pressure a few years ago but after that pandemic hit I decided to slow down and enjoy my real life more and I love it.
On Twitter I am deleting people but it’s taking me a while. I think back in the blogging days I used to do the follow for follow train and so many people followed me and I them. Half of them aren’t on Twitter and I’ve been deleting about 100 per day. Instagram a lot of people never engage and never speak and a lot of them aren’t on anymore either. I deleted over 50 people who haven’t posted since 2019. Here is my opinion I think when you delete folks others who follow you and may have been missing your content now see you pop up more and you can see them.
Would you delete social media?

Popped over from Twitter to read this, and I love hearing how you’ve been able to change your thinking on social media, especially Instagram.
Keeping up for “business” is exhausting! I’m not ready to delete social media, but I’ve been taking bigger breaks from it.
