It’s Finally Friday: August 23

The DNC brought it all to the table we took it high and we took it low. I loved it! As someone who didn’t grow up being into politics and voted for the first time in my mid-30s, I will say it is refreshing to see the Democrats put on a show. We have work to do to get this thing moving in the right direction. We only have 70-something more days to get Kamala into the White house so we can see the changes and the hope that the DNC brought to life in our real-life daily. We gotta hit the ground running and I don’t know about you but I’m fired up ready to be and do anything I put my mind to. Welcome to It’s Finally Friday: August 23 let’s talk politics. If you missed the last It’s Finally Friday you can catch it here.

I grew up in a time when my mom said voting doesn’t matter they will put who they want to put in the whitehouse. I stood on that belief until Obama won…I didn’t vote the first time around because I was quite shocked that they put a black man into that type of power. I started to not believe my mom and thought well hey if they put a black man in surely it does matter who we vote for. Since then I have voted from my local voting to the highest vote I can do which is voting for the next president. Local votes matter just as much because it’s where you live and local changes can happen faster than national changes.

I didn’t get to watch the first 3 nights of the DNC because I was ripping and running with my daughter but I caught the recaps. From Michelle going low to her husband talking about “crowd sizes”. From seeing through Gus’s eyes who his dad really is (we ride for him) to seeing the first husband’s ex-wife even get on board. From seeing Republicans stand for democracy to seeing Biden being shady and getting his well-deserved standing ovation. I even loved Tony and Kerry (who keeps this charade up). The roll call was my favorite! It was the Gen Z’s going to a Gen X cookout with the millennials being in the middle being able to straddle both sides like the bosses that we are. Every moment made me realize that we aren’t going back. That means we stand up for what is right and we get all the black jobs even the ones they think we aren’t qualified for.
