Hello Kita: Mental Health

Welcome back to Hello, Kita! Let’s talk mental health. I see a lot of folks using that these days to get out of murder and other stuff these days. So everybody has a mental health issue? The only way I’ll believe it is if they have a history of documented (from real doctors) paperwork that says they have a problem. If they were never diagnosed or never had a paper trail of mental illness, then I’m going to just believe you are evil.

My first introduction to mental health was with my Aunt. I was in middle school, came home off the bus, and was walking to my grandma’s house. She lived down a long dirt road. As I was getting closer to the house, I saw my Aunt run out of the house butt naked. I was like OMG we are being robbed, and she must have just gotten out of the shower. I threw my bookbag to the ground and started running too (that’s what black folks do). I called her name several times, and she didn’t answer me. Odd…there was a creek in front of the driveway up to my grandmother’s house; she was running straight towards it. I slowed down and realized that she was running into the creek. She did, and thank goodness it was low tide. I started screaming to the neighbors across the creek to call 911. I didn’t want to get in the water to help her because last time I didn’t listen to my mom, I got my ass beat, so I was just telling her to hold on to something, but she didn’t hear me. The ambulance and police came; they were able to get her, and they took her away. Later, I asked my mom what happened and she said oh she has a mental illness. Nobody told me shat. I found out as an adult that it was Schizophrenia. She had another episode when I was in high school, but by this time I was afraid to be in the same room with her. Whenever I stayed at her house, I would lock the bedroom door I was in and put a chair up against it. She had only had about 3 episodes since that first one I saw, but I had seen enough.

Please take mental health seriously. Most of them won’t hurt you, but there are a few that will, and you just never know.

Let’s Talk

  • my heart goes out to the guy who lost his life on that roller coaster here in Georgia at Six Flags. Last time we went which was about 3 years ago. I noticed there were a bunch of young kids working there. Like 16- to 20 yr olds operating rides. No real older adults around. My daughter had asked to ride that ride and I said no. We don’t go on anything that has to many loops. She was upset. I stood my ground.
  • I was never an amusement park girl. I am the bag lady. I will do the kiddie rides and a water ride or two, but that’s it for me. I have no desire to feel that type of rush
  • There is a girl on insta who gave up sugar for a few days. That is so hard to do. I tried and lasted 2 days. Sugar is in everything. I haven’t given up sugar but what I have done is limit my consumption of it. Also anything that has over 20% extra sugar gotta go.
  • Somebody buy me this. I had it before but gave it back because I was confused, but now I want it again.
  • Speaking of buying me things or giving me things. I am starting to not like the begging on threads. You know the posts where people say times are tough and they can’t pay their rent, and they say I have set up a GoFundMe or here is my Cash App. I am not a fan of it. We all fall on rough times but I don’t know I’ll sleep in my car before I beg on social media. Some of it is real but a lot of it is fake and people need to own their own stuff
  • I voted early. You don’t have to like the person or agree a hunnit with the person just pick the best reasonable person let all that other shat go.
  • I bought a new coffee machine. I didn’t need it, but it was on sale. I’m still trying to work the thing.

I love your picture, btw, and that fan….where might one find it? 😊
It’s so sad what happened to the gentleman at Six Flags. God bless his soul.I have actually gone without sugar in the past. Its a slow build with cutting out certain foods and then not buying anything with added sugars. I tried it again at the beginning of the year, but with the stress of my job, I couldn’t stay focused. So, I’ve decided to just cut back for now instead of fully going without. I’ll try it again soon.

As someone who also has an aunt that was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, it truly is traumatic to behold. She used to live with us and those times were filled with some truly indescribable moments. Makes matters more complicated…she had 2 children… my mom adopted them so my cousins became my siblings. Anywho… mental wealth truly is wealth. And another to tier necessity investment that must be made daily.

yes and we need to have better services and programs. I even think it need to be another department within the police department to handle this also

That’s a thought there, agreed Definitely need more service based support. There have been some significant advancements in therapeutic approaches, but do they apply them in these instances???? Nope.
