Back to school Brunch for all ages

Back to school Brunch for all ages

Summer is over for my daughter and we are gearing up for back to school. She didn’t get to spend time with her friends this Summer because everyone had things to do so my daughter was kind of sad. I had put down a deposit for a caterer for her 16th birthday but we went in another direction for it so since I couldn’t get my deposit back, we came up with a fun way to use that money. She came up with the idea of a back-to-school brunch, and I ran with it. A back-to-school brunch isn’t just for teens, it can be for all ages, and I’ll break down some fun info and tips for you so that you can have your own next year or even after Christmas break.

Let’s start with teens since I have one. I had the caterer, so all I had to do was get their gift bags together. We had one teen who was on her way to college, and everyone else was 15 to 18 years old. I did a brunch that featured chicken and waffles, French toast, breakfast potatoes, sausages, fruit, and eggs. You can cook or you can order from a brunch spot in your area. Please don’t feel obligated to hire a chef; they are expensive. The chef we used was good, but next year, when I do it, I will probably just order from Waffle House and do some minor things at the house myself. I think it comes out cheaper that way.

For their gift bags, here are some things we got for them.

  • Notebooks and pens
  • Some wipes that I love for them to have for school (I gave the college kid her own pack)
  • Some candy and chips
  • A fidget toy
  • Mini flashlight
  • $10 Starbucks gift card each
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Mini first aid kits

For the college girl I gave her…

  • A portable charger
  • Soltair body wash
  • A first aid kit (a bigger version than what the kids got)
  • A mug with her name on it
  • Her favorite candy and chips

Now if you want to do this for just adults (no kids allowed) I think having something like this would work. Here are some ideas you can use

  • Have a coffee station set up
  • Adults can have a more elevated breakfast with mimosas
  • Have space for networking and talking to each other
  • Play a game of remember when we were in school and have each adult recall a good and ba time in school and what they learned from it.
  • Gifst can be gift cards to various places, have someone give a massage, or even do a flower making class or something engaging at a venue of your choice.

For the smaller kids

  • Outside so they can run around
  • Have them little lunch boxes that also double as their gift
  • Throw in some coloring books, school supplies, small toys, candy, etc.
  • Have kids participate in the cooking and do everything mini
  • Do a back-to-school game for prizes and ask questions they should know based on their ages

Overall I think we had a great time. My daughter and her friends played Uno and other card games, watched a movie (they all piled in her room it was 14 of them), and ate good. I also made sure that we didn’t do a long evening I had the brunch from 1 to 4 that way parents can get on with their days and get everyone ready for the week ahead.

Chef: Chef Landon

Balloons: Fivetwenty Balloons

If you have any questions, let me know. I pulled all this together in 3 weeks. Cost was about 1k (including the gift bags, chef, balloons, etc). Oh by the way I did have to order tables and chairs. I had the kids in the garage because it called for rain and I had the adults inside.

I love it! A group of parents and I used to do this on the first day of school when my son was in private school, and we had such a great time. I love that yours includes the students. Ours was a “They’re off to their new year celebration.”
